" The Indian Wedding is The Indian Wedding is The Indian Wedding "
This one single quote from top fashion designer ROHIT BAL
says it all. What better way than a big
fat Indian wedding to show off your wealth, your opulence and your extravagance. A rapid growing upwardly mobile economy coupled with increasing thirst to show
off one's standard and style has made the industry worth 40 billion dollars
this year and the graph is steeply going
upwards.
Sounds like a dream.

Let's see what goes on in the making of this billion dollar dream.
An average Indian household spends 1/5 th of its accumulated wealth on their son or daughter's wedding. A huge chunk of the wedding budget goes into the bride's attire and gold.
In the case of luxury weddings, which are fast gaining prominence across the country, the budget for these goes upto a staggering 80% of the total wedding budget.
Not surprisingly, the top 50 designers of the country make 60-70% of their total earnings from wedding couture. Names such as Rohit Bal, Sabyasaachi Mukherjee, Tarun Tahiliani, Anamika Khanna (for the ladies) and Raghavendra Rathore, Suneet Verma and the likes (for the men) are some of the top players in the wedding scene. They attach a kind of rock star value to the wedding attire, hence making the affair grander than it already is! Not just them, for the middle class too, the wedding time is the time when they throng the local boutiques and artists to make their day special. so its a win -win for anyone and everyone attached to the industry.
Normally the celebrations last over a week atleast, and hence each ceremony requires an individual outfit, theme, colour n bling .From the bride, to her immediate family, to her relatives and her friends, each person now wants to look and feel distinct and special. And the same applies to the groom's side too. hence the market for the products that satiate their needs is immense and absolutely loaded with options.
So much for the Saat Pheras there. All said and done, weddings deserve this kind of attention and vanity .It is afterall about celebrating an eternal bond of love and respect, why not do it in style. So if there is a wedding in your circle this time around, go right ahead and rev up your wardrobe, for shopping has a perfectly valid reason this time around.
