Think Alicia Silverstone in CLUELESS. Think no more.
I'm sure you got the clue.
The term 'Retail Therapy' was invented by some genius. If there was a Nobel prize for innovative thinking for fashion, my vote would go to that person who quoted these beautiful words.
It is liberating to know that indulging our vanity and greed for clothes (and lots of other things) has become a source of therapy for our body , mind and soul.
People at large today find the practice of shopping therapeutic, owing to mounting work, social, personal or family pressures. It is a temporary vent to go and buy things that make them feel happy about their lives.
Interestingly, the social act of going and buying is more calming than the purchase itself. It makes us feel better to be surrounded by people or shopping items whose only concern or care in the world at that moment is to shop.
Women are more prone to this form of therapy as they have more volatile and frequent reasons for mood swings and depressions. Although men are genuinely not far behind. Its just a difference of goods preferred by the two sexes. Men tend to splurge more on gadgets and electronics ,while women will just crush depression under piles and piles of clothing, make up ,or accessories.
Different people also find peace and high in different deals. While luxury shopping for high end brands is some people's way of feeling good, others feel good when they find a good bargain or an unexpected sale on their desired shopping items.
Excess therapy is not good for the pocket though. People who splurge whimsically without thinking of their budgets repent and regret it later on. The therapy then turns to a financial monster. When people start finding their only gratification and remedy in adding something to their wardrobe, it may become a bigger psychological problem.
But retail therapy in moderation is a wonderful experience. If there's a better way to get an instant high,I'm still not aware of it.
Wise advise there.
