May the light of a million diyas light your life and fill it with joy and cheer eternally! This is a wonderful time in our country. There is a array of festivities that began with Dusshera and continue with the bang and boom of Deepawali.
Deepawali is in a way the New Year for Hindus. It is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. And we girls definitely light up the atmosphere with our colorful attires, make up and the bling. Diwali has to be celebrated in grand style- elaborate clothing, make up and the jewels. Your shine has to match the light of the diyas. Girls! Its time to illuminate the world with your inner and outer beauty!
It only makes sense to bring out your favorite ethnic wear and dress your best as the Festive fever gains heat. Indulge in your favorite sweets and keep the calorie counter at bay for a while. Indians have an inherent sweet tooth and with all those mithais piling up at home, who can resist for long! Let go for a while and enjoy your favorite mithais this time of the year.
I love everything about Deepawali. The exchange of gifts, the card parties, the constant laughter and merrymaking as you catch up with your friends and relatives, the Rangoli and other knick knacks that you decorate the house with, the Laxmi Ganesha Puja and Aarti in the evening, the glittering Diyas , the crackers, Phew! The list of my loves on Diwali is endless.
But of course the favourite part is DRESSING UP FOR DIWALI!
This year, I tried fusion wear this year instead of going for the regular lehnga or anarkali. My idea of a Diwali outfit was elaborate in look and yet light as a feather. This coordinated set that I made into a Lehnga was actually a Skirt and top! A little accessorising made all the difference and I was transformed into an Indian Princess with some smart tricks.
Here is how I made the ordinary look extra ordinary-
* The colour scheme was of course very English. Bright yellow combined with beige. I threw over a Red dupatta from another outfit and the skirt top was conveniently played up to look like a Lehnga!
* The Maang Teeka! It is a DIY teeka actually. An abandoned earring, the better half of which I had misplaced sometime back was finally happily single now, and put to good use! The dangler looked as much of a maang teeka as the real thing. All I did was- attach a little chain to it. (your mum will be proud of hacks such as these!)
* You will ofcourse want to have a pair of earrings that can go well with most Indian wear. I picked up this super light, metal pair with cut out patterns from the streets of GK M BLOCK and they are extremely light and wearable. The gold color went with my entire look. I also teamed up my favorite gold box clutch with this ensemble.
* Flats- Since it was a skirt, and I had to make it look like a lehnga, I ditched the heels and wore flats. It not just gave an illusion of a longer skirt silhouette, but also ensured that my feet stayed happy and comfortable during the festive fervour.
So girls, whatever be your style, just make sure you keep it comfortable. Because no matter how stunning your outfit is, if you are not comfortable in it, it won't make sense. Also, its not always necessary to go conventional. A few changes here and there can make sure that you look completely Indian and on point!
